The Heather and Thistle Society
This ancient Gaelic greeting is a timeless expression of Scottish hospitality and goodwill and there is no better way to welcome you to the Heather and Thistle Society of Houston, Texas, USA. The Heather and Thistle Society was founded in 1953 by Scots living in Houston who wished to "cultivate an interest in Scotland” in their new homeland while providing fellowship and social contact. More than a half-century later, Heather and Thistle is still promoting friendships and inspiring interest in Scottish culture and heritage. Meetings are held at a variety of locations, typically between the months of September through June. They include music, dancing, lively lectures, participation in the Houston Highland Games, and dinner meetings in Houston’s favorite Scottish restaurants and pubs. In addition to meetings, the Heather and Thistle Society sponsors a Robert Burns Club and Houston’s longest running Robert Burns Supper, held in late January every year. The Heather and Thistle Society is open to anyone interested in the history, literature, music and traditions of Scotland. New members and visitors are always welcome. Visit the Events page for information on upcoming meetings and events.
